This hardware perform many functions of the cpu. Cpu without a RAM is like boiling an empty pot and wait for the soup, this device it is the one which deals with the mechanism of booting, standby and shutdown windows with an help of OS. All running programes are maintained by this device and proceesed as VIRTIAL MEMORY(vit) if am not mystaken. Cache files are stored in it so as to make a first backup of your internet files (history). Surely RAM is a very important device in a cpu.
